Warm weather looks like it’s here to stay and that means you’re going to want to start watering your lawn. Here’s some tips to help you get the most out of your sprinkler system this season.
1. Make sure your sprinkler heads are adjusted correctly. These can be knocked out of alignment by lawn mowers or may simply need to be raised due to plant growth. This is so important. You don’t want to be wasting water by watering your driveway or your neighbor’s fence!
2. Water early in the mornings. Summertime is very hot in Alabama and watering in the afternoon during the hottest part of the day will cause a lot of water to evaporate quickly before it can be absorbed in to your grass. The cooler temps in the mornings will provide enough time for your lawn to get those nutrients it needs!
3. Water long and deep. In most cases, daily watering creates shallow grass and does not provide the lawn that you want. Watering less and for longer times is normally more effective than shorter times each day.
4. Pay attention to the shaded areas. Seeing puddles in your yard hours after watering? This could be why. Shade trees are great for providing a reprieve from the hot sun, but they can also cause standing water after using your irrigation system. This can be prevented by customizing that particular zone’s run time.
As always, B&C Irrigation Systems is here for you and we are happy to send one of our knowledgeable staff to your home to make sure your system is watering efficiently. Happy Summer!
